Lincoln and York

Industry Sector: Manufacturing and Industry
Summary of savings: Energy saving of £79,519 per annum

Client Testimonial:

From the very start, BCR Associates took full control of the whole project liaising and coordinating all the relevant contractors and utility companies involved. The sheer workload in delivering this project on time and on budget was kept completely under control as we had to operate our business as normal during this period with no downtime whatsoever. The business has already seen significant benefits of the conversion. Whilst the initial investment was substantial, the pay back of the scheme will be recouped within two years. The additional benefits have helped drive our factory efficiencies to a new level as well as reducing our carbon footprint. Also, as the site no longer has propane tanks it has made way for a new warehouse extension, planned for late 2012.

The level of professionalism delivered by BCR Associates has been so high we have now awarded them our next project which is to deliver a complete new supply of electrical power to the site.

Thanks BCR Associates, you made it look so easy!

About our client:

Lincoln & York provide a coffee-sourcing, roasting and packaging service to the out-of-home and food service, distributor and specialist retail markets in the UK, Europe and worldwide. The company has a modern and sophisticated roastery equipped to deal with the various product ranges and needs of the coffee market.

Client requirements:

Lincoln & York were using 406,290 litres of LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) per annum and were experiencing poor load pressure at peak roasting times causing quality control issues. BCR Associates were approached through their environmental advisor to identify ways to reduce costs and CO2 emissions.

Our approach:

Our dedicated Account Manager worked closely with directors at Lincoln & York providing a complete end-to-end service to restructure their energy supplies. BCR Associates researched and offered solutions, and managed the entire operation on their behalf, all without cost or obligation.

The project:

BCR Associates identified that a switch to natural gas would not only improve roast quality and burner performance, but would also reduce the annual gas expenditure and vastly improve the client's carbon footprint. Based on the Elsham Wold Industrial Estate the client unfortunately had no access to a natural gas main. BCR Associates however researched and delivered costed infrastructure proposal that allowed the client to achieve their goals.

Through BCR Associates Lincoln & York initiated a significant infrastructure project to achieve a mains connection. The works represented a significant cost, however the benefits far outweighed the cost and scale of works. Our dedicated account manager worked with engineers and project technicians at Fulcrum to complete the installation within the time and budget framework. A custom built rotary gas meter and over 180 meters of gas mains were installed. While the works were being carried out the factory continued to operate on LPG to ensure business continuity.

The results:

Despite the expense of the installation BCR Associates delivered a saving of £79,519 per annum to Lincoln & York which equated to a 49% saving in costs. In addition, due to the change from LPG to natural gas Lincoln & York's carbon emissions reduced by 79,770Kg/CO2e per annum. This is the equivalent to filling a hot air balloon 16 times or driving round the earth in an average car 10 times!
