- The sheer scale of arable farms and the processes required to distribute the goods often result in high business costs. BCR Associates worked with E Parks & Sons, a key UK supplier of potatoes, to realise significant reductions in costs as well as working towards a green low carbon future for this family owned Yorkshire firm
- Telecoms contract placed with a carbon neutral supplier
About our client:
E Park and Sons are passionate about potatoes. Since 1924, the family run company has enjoyed supplying Britain's potatoes and distributing to the world. Recognised as an authoritative and leading expert, they are the sole Licensees for National Trust Potatoes and Vegetables and are responsible for cultivating many new and innovative varieties.
With a worldwide market, production facilities operate 24 hours a day, resulting in E Parks & Sons consuming a considerable amount of energy. Due to the seasonal nature of crop harvesting they were experiencing very high electricity bills out of season so engaged with BCR Associates to look at their costs. As a keen environmentally focussed, family owned business E Parks & Sons also asked BCR Associates to look at alternative aspects to reducing energy consumption and renewable generation options to reduce costs and drive down carbon emissions.
Through BCR Associates' extensive supply chain, a consultative approach was taken to look at options and guidance was formed to coordinate the sites' energy contracts with a focus on future on-site generation.
The supply contracts were rationalised to produce substantial initial monetary savings and a project to provide guidance on installation of an anaerobic digestion was instigated.
Creating green energy from the 25,000 tonnes of waste vegetable skins is a medium term goal for E Parks & Sons and the design, infrastructure and implementation will take the client in a whole new direction in cutting costs. In a continuing drive to reduce costs and boost profits, E Parks & Sons also instructed BCR Associates to analyse telecommunications and water usage, both areas of potential savings.
Fast results were produced form tendering two 6 month contracts to substantially reduce the expenditure by £10,415 per annum, with an annual review to ensure a competitive market position.
The full cost review also identified a considerable overspend in telecommunications. BCR Associates quickly established the incumbent supplier's 'best tariff' was in fact unsuitable and a review reduced annual
telecommunication overheads by £34,280 (a 62% saving).
Additionally BCR Associates organised for the telecommunication to be placed with a carbon neutral supplier again supporting E Parks environmental policies.
