About our client:

Broadclyst Primary Academy Trust is an Academy School located in the village of Broadclyst in East Devon.

Client requirements:

Broadclyst Primary were part of the local authority purchasing portfolio up until they became an academy school in August 2010 and had been subject to the prices made available to the council by central purchasers without any consultation. Also with schools having to budget carefully they were in desperate need of a process whereby they could utilise the available funding each year and stay within monetary boundary set out.

Our approach:

Our dedicated Account Manager worked closely with Broadclyst Primary providing a complete end-to-end service. We researched and offered solutions and managed the entire operation on their behalf, all without cost or obligation. Our service also returned 100% of the savings to the customer so they instantly increased their operating funds.

The project:

We embarked on a complete cost review of all the gas and electricity expenditure across all of the meters on site. In addition to billing mistakes we also established there were a total of three contracts and five different end dates, making the management of this extremely difficult and time consuming.

Due to our detailed industry knowledge and relationships we have built up over the years, our specialists were able to swiftly resolve the issues with the suppliers. The detailed review also established that the school needed to complete a VAT reduction form so that they would only be liable for 5% and exempt from Climate Change Levy (CCL) due to it having exempt charity status. Finally, our account manager organised the contracts into a single co-ordinated portfolio.

The results:

Following the business cost review, Broadclyst achieved a reduction in electricity expenditure and a reduction in gas costs which went someway to enabling them to budget moving forwards. However, the most beneficial adjustment to the schools purchasing and budgeting was the organising of full AMR for both electricity and gas meters which not only is an effective solution for budgeting purposes but has also allowed the school to use the data received from the AMR to educate the children with regards to carbon output, consumption and climate change. In addition, the single coherent account significantly reduces administrative tasks and time. In fact, BCR Associates manage the annual budget using the AMR system giving the school piece of mind that it is all in hand.
