Best Western Centurion Hotel

Industry Sector: Hospitality

Client Testimonial:

BCR Associates were very clear and professional and when we met Ben he took time to explain the differences in various contracts. We were happy working with an energy broker but Ben offered us massive savings in our administration time and ongoing competitive contracts all at no cost to us. I would not hesitate in recommending Ben to other organisations, every company would benefit from a health check now and again.

Martin Jones, Chairman

Project Summary:

  • Bath based hotel with multiple energy meters and differing end dates
  • Required better energy buying options
  • Client did not pay a penny for the service from BCR Associates

About our client:

The BEST WESTERN PLUS Centurion Hotel is situated just 9 miles away from Bath, on the outskirts of Midsomer Norton. In pleasant village surroundings, the hotel offers convenience as well as character, with the A367 providing  links to Bath and Shepton Mallet and Wells.

Privately owned and run by the Jones family who have a hundred years of hospitality experience under their belts, the hotel combines professional service with a warm, relaxed environment with a 9-hole golf course and well-equipped fitness centre.

Client requirements:

Our client is a 4 star hotel with a large electricity and gas usage. The client was using the services of an energy broker but felt that they wanted to better their buying options in the market place and also wanted a more interactive and personal service given their large spend. The had several contracts with different end dates and wanted to simplify their administration with more transparency.

Our approach:

BCR Associates, a specialist cost reduction consultancy, offer a complete review of the essential costs which companies have to manage. We met with the client to advise them on their energy procurement establishing their needs, goals and objectives.

The project:

With two large sites with both gas and electricity and 16 smaller sites with a variety of meters, we set out to create a common end date for all sites and source the most suitable terms and conditions. For The Centurion, we looked to purchase the energy almost 12 months in advance.

We tendered the supply to all suppliers and found options of Assured Contracts (more expensive but fully fixed for better budgeting power), Standard Contracts (certain elements fixed and other elements unfixed ) and "Pass Through" offering only the commodity (Gas) fixed and all other charges passed through as
they were from the suppliers.

The results:

Having calculated the additional 'risk premium' built in by the suppliers against the potential risk, the client decided that the "Pass Through" option offered the best potential savings available for the type of contract they required. All individual sites we also signed as part of the same coterminous contract to ensure the best basket price was achieved.
